An Integrated Academic Model
The Problem

Caught Between Two Systems

Neurodivergent learners whose academic potential isn't reached by mainstream or special education

Stalled Language & Comprehension

Learners may name and request, but their language is stalled. They struggle with comprehension, conversation, abstract reasoning, and academic discourse.

Rote responses can mask significant gaps. Most curricula stop at the language of a four-year-old — well short of what's needed for school, friendship, and adult life.

Academic growth stalls or regresses. Kids are unable to keep up with their peers and are lost in the system.

No Suitable Academic Placement

Families cannot find a school that fits.

  • Mainstream classrooms can't accommodate the supports their child needs.
  • Special-education programs aren't designed for learners who could be reaching far higher academic ground.
  • Some students have been removed from school entirely with no appropriate placement.
Academic Foundations

Our Academic Foundations

Every decision is informed by peer-reviewed research, ongoing assessment, and faculty oversight

Applied Relational Frame Training

The most scientifically validated framework for developing meaningful language and cognition, from foundational requesting to advanced reasoning.

Explicit Academic Instruction

Structured, sequenced teaching with mastery criteria, the approach research identifies as most effective for learners who need explicit scaffolding.

Ongoing Assessment

Curriculum-based, data-informed instruction, every program is responsive, individualized, and accountable. Families see progress as it happens.

Language & Communication

Building flexible, generative language across every academic and social context

Grounded in Applied Relational Frame Theory

Functional Communication

Spontaneous, reciprocal language across school, home, and community — moving from requesting and naming to real conversation.

Reading & Academic Language

Reading comprehension, written expression, and the language of the classroom — the foundation for every subject area.

Perspective & Social Reasoning

Understanding others' thoughts, feelings, and intentions; navigating complex social situations with confidence.

Figurative Language & Humor

Idioms, sarcasm, humor — the language of belonging. Verbal reasoning that opens up academic and social worlds.

Academic Life & Readiness

A rigorous, individualized academic program built around each learner's trajectory

Curriculum-Based Assessment

Academic Skills

Core academic instruction across literacy, mathematics, science, and the humanities — taught at each learner's level and pace.

Life & Independence Skills

Health, wellness, daily living, financial literacy, and community navigation — preparation for an autonomous adult life.

Executive Function

Self-management, time and task organization, attention regulation, and the habits of successful independent students.

Collaborative Learning

Project-based work, teamwork, and peer interaction — the academic skills that schools and workplaces ask for.

Community & Social Engagement

Authentic participation in the community — not simulation, but real life

Inclusive & Community Partnered

Peer & Friendship Programs

Structured time with same-age peers, interest-based groups, and scaffolded opportunities to form real, lasting connections.

Community Experiences

Outings, cultural participation, and learning to move through the city with confidence and independence.

Interest-Led Classes

Arts, music, culinary, athletics — designed in collaboration with educators to follow each learner's curiosity.

Recreation & Wellness

Hobbies, leisure, fitness, and well-being woven into the rhythm of every day — not an add-on, a foundation.

Family Partnership

Families are central to the model — not on the sidelines

Long-term Partnership

Caregiver Education

Structured parent sessions, in-home support, and ongoing consultation — equipping families to extend the learning.

Long-Term Life Planning

Living, employment, post-secondary education, service coordination — transition roadmaps that look years ahead.
